The tournament series is off to a good start

The Forest Chess Challenge is off to a good beginning with 15 registered players participating in the first event.   

Quick - Open and U1000

Open Champion: James Dove

U1000 Champion: Neil Witherow 

Open 2nd place: Patrick Tabor

U1000 2nd place: Jess Hinton 

U1000 3rd place: Anna Knight

Open 3rd Place (not pictured): Johnny Hicks, Yadvinder Singh Ahi, David Mooney

All first place winners claimed outright championships

Quick Open - 5 rounds, Swiss; g/15+3 

James Dove won first place and the $75 prize. 

Patrick Tabor won second place and the $50 prize.  

*Prizes were only awarded to the top two winners.

Johnny Hicks won third place by computer tiebreak. 


Quick U1000 - 5 rounds, Swiss; g/15+3

Neil Witherow won first place and the $75 prize. 

Jess Hinton won second place and the $50 prize.

* Anna Knight won third place following a tiebreak game.

*Prizes were only awarded to the top two winners 


Blitz Open - 6 rounds, Swiss; g/5+3

Yadvinder Singh Ahi first place and the $75 prize. 

Johnny Hicks won second place and the $50 prize. 

*Prizes were only awarded to the top two winners.

James Dove won third place.


Blitz U1000 - 6 rounds, Swiss; g/5+3

Caleb Hinton won first place and the $75 prize. 

Ryan Athiban and Nathan Knight tied for second place and split the $50 prize.

*Prizes were only awarded to the top two winners.

A tiebreaker game could not be held due to the venue becoming unavailable. Another party had reserved the venue. to follow the tournament.  


Tiebreaker process

Only one tiebreaker game was played. Jess Hinton and Anna Knight played a sudden death g/5+0 game to settle second place in Quick U1000.

How long will the results remain posted?

* Results from each tournament will remain online here for up to one year.

When the next tournament in the series is held, new results will replace the previous results.


** The hard copy printouts on tournament days (pairings, results, standings after rounds) 

will be kept for 1 month in case there are any reported discrepancies. 

After 30 days, the printouts will be subject for disposal.
